Chakra maps differ because spiritual traditions and modern teachers organize subtle-body concepts in different ways. The popular seven-center system is not the only map used, while eight- and twelve-center systems add transpersonal centers.

Seven chakras
The modern seven-center sequence runs from root through crown and is the version most familiar in popular yoga and wellness culture.
Eight and twelve chakra maps
Eight-center maps often add the Soul Star above the crown. Twelve-center maps vary much more in naming and placement. When reading a claim, ask which system the author is using.
